Energycon Engineering designs and installs audio systems for houses of worship across Singapore — Buddhist and Taoist temples, churches, and multi-purpose worship halls. Worship audio has a requirement most commercial venues never face: the system must serve live, sustained vocal performance — chanting, sermons, liturgy — in halls that are usually hard-surfaced and reverberant, and it must be operated by volunteers and staff, not sound engineers.
A recent project: Kuan Im Tng Temple, Joo Chiat
At Kuan Im Tng Temple, the previous system suffered frequent breakdowns, uneven coverage and muffled audio during services. We rebuilt it around a Powersoft Quattrocanali 4804 DSP amplifier — its onboard DSP tunes the hall precisely, while Smart Rails Management and Power Factor Correction address the heat and power stability problems behind the old system's failures. Four Yamaha CHR12 loudspeakers cover the prayer hall evenly, and four Shure SM35 headworn microphones on an SLX-D digital wireless system carry the chanting — hands-free and stable through long ceremonies.

Why worship halls are hard to get right
Reverberation. Stone, tile, glass and high ceilings give worship halls long reverb tails. Pushing more volume into a reverberant hall makes speech less intelligible, not more. The answer is controlled dispersion — column arrays or carefully aimed loudspeakers that put energy on the congregation and keep it off the walls — plus DSP tuning after installation.
Sustained vocal sources. Chanting and liturgy are continuous, multi-voice, and often amplified through headworn microphones worn for hours. The system needs feedback-stable gain and wireless that does not drop mid-ceremony — which is why we specify digital systems like Shure SLX-D rather than consumer wireless.
Volunteer operators. If adjusting the system requires an engineer, the system is wrong. We hand over one-knob-simple operation: power on, microphones on, service starts.

Our system keeps breaking down. Is that normal?
No — it is a design problem, not a maintenance problem. Repeated failures usually trace to amplifiers running hot at their limits or unstable power. Modern amplifier platforms with proper thermal and power management, correctly sized for the hall, break that cycle — that was precisely the situation at Kuan Im Tng Temple.
Can services continue during installation?
Yes. We stage the work so the hall keeps functioning — the old system stays live until the new one is ready, and the changeover happens between services.
Can we upgrade in phases?
Often, yes: amplification and DSP first, loudspeakers next, wireless microphones last — each phase is usable on its own. A site assessment tells us whether your existing speakers are worth keeping for a phase.
